Nigerians react as NNPC increases petrol price to between N868 & N940 per litre

Nigerians have reacted to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC) increasing petrol pump prices to between N868 and N940 per litre.

Recall that since President Bola Tinubu was sworn in, the first statement he made in 2023 was “Fuel subsidy is gone.” The statement has thrown the country into economic chaos, with petrol prices rising from N189 to over N1,000 per litre amidst scarcity.

NNPC, a government-backed company that mediates the prices of petroleum products, reviewed the price of petrol to stay between N591 and N650 across the nation in the middle of scarcity.

Even though other petrol stations were selling up to and above N1,000, NNPC stations retained the aforementioned prices.

However, on Tuesday, 3rd September 2024, NNPC stations across the nation reviewed their pump price upward to between N868 to N940 per litre.

Other filling stations are adjusting their prices as well.

In an interview with Peoples Gazette, NNPC’s spokesperson, Femi Soneye, said, “I’m not aware. But I’ll find out.”

Reacting to the upward price of petrol, Nigerians have taken to social media to err their displeasures amidst the dwindling economy.

“At official NNPC Rate, full tank for my car is now 63k, it was formally 43K that’s a massive 20,000 increase overnight. This government is slowly dragging us all into poverty. If care is not taken the common man wouldn’t be able to afford basic needs again.” Sarkin Mota

“Well done, NNPC. This price is manageable. 897 per litre is not bad.” – Ahmad Ganga on X.

“JUST IN: Petrol price hits nearly 900 in NNPC fuel stations today. We will teach Peter Obi a lesson.” Dr Dabo

“From the NNPC filling station this morning. Your hope have been Renewed indeed.” Hon DINO

“What is Tulumbu and NNPC doing to #fuel for christ-sake? Are they drinking it like water? No fuel across Nigeria. What happened to the subsidy he criticized Goodluck Jonathan for? A lot of questions for BATidiots to answer. If Nigerians are wise, they will stand their ground now before they charge you all for Treason before 2027… Else, another 4years don sure for the incompetent man. Na swear you go receive if you ever compare Peter Obi and Bola Tinubu again.” OLAdeyforyou
