Over 9 PDP heavyweights, supporters dump party in Cross River

Nine heavyweights of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and their multitude of supporters, have dumped the party in Cross River State.

One of them is Rt. Hon. Efa Esua, a two-time member representing Calabar Municipality State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly.

Esua resigned from the party on 16 February 2024, stating personal reasons as the reason for his decision. Read the full story HERE.

Others who resigned alongside Esua are Comrade Etta Ekong Edim, former Deputy Ward Chairman; Okon Edet Ekpo; Eld. Hon. Efiok Eyo; Ita Okon; Ndianabasi Okon alias Africa; Charles Okon; and two others.

The chieftains gave reasons for their resignation in their separate resignation letters.

Comrade Etta Ekong Edim in his resignation letter addressed to the Ward 3 Chairman of the party in
Calabar Municipality on 17 Feb. 2024, said:

“I humbly wish to tender my resignation as a member of Peoples Democratic Party ward three (3), with effect from today 17th February 2024. The reason and purpose for my resignation is unquestionable.

“I sincerely appreciate the opportunity availed me to serve as Deputy Ward Chairman. As I wish the party all the best in Her endeavour.”

Also in a resignation letter dated 19 Feb. 2024, to the Ward 3 Chairman of the PDP in Calabar Municipality, Okon Edet Ekpo, said:

“I hereby tender my resignation from the People Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately.

“This decision is personal and made in good faith.”

In a similar vein, Eld. Hon. Efiok Eyo in his resignation letter to the PDP Ward 3 Chairman in Calabar Municipality on 17 Feb. 2024, said:

“I write to convey to you my resolve to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) effective today (17th February 2024). This decision was reached after due consultations with a few associates on the way forward.

“I thank the party for the opportunity and platform given me to contribute my quota towards the entrenchment of democracy in our society.

“Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

CONVERSEER reports that in recent months, members of the PDP have been leaving the party, some of which have already joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the state.
