Over a Dozen Nigerien Soldiers Killed in Ambush Near Algerian Border

Eleven Nigerien soldiers were killed in an ambush over the weekend near the Algerian border, local media report.

The attack occurred over the weekend in the locality of Inanbagarett, in the department of Ingall, while the soldiers were on patrol.

Brigadier General Salaou Barmou, Chief of Staff of the Niger Armed Forces, and Colonel Major Maman Sani Kiaou, Chief of Staff of the Army, traveled to Agadez to attend the funeral of the fallen soldiers.

Reports indicate that several others were injured, though the exact number remains undisclosed.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place on Saturday at 20:00 GMT.

The incident marks the second deadly ambush against the Nigerien army in less than a month.

On February 3, at least ten soldiers were killed in a similar attack in the department of Téra, near the Burkina Faso border.
