IBADAN – The Oyo State Government has disbursed a total of ₦12 billion to state workers, fulfilling Governor Seyi Makinde’s pledge to implement the ₦80,000 minimum wage, effective January 1, 2025.

The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, confirmed the payment in a statement on Saturday, highlighting its impact on workers’ welfare.

According to Oyelade, workers on Grade Levels 1 to 6 now enjoy a minimum salary increment of ₦50,000, while those on Grade Level 17 have seen their salaries increase by over ₦180,000.

“In this same month of January, pensioners are not left out of the comprehensive welfare plan,” he added. “A minimum pension of ₦25,000 and a 33 per cent pension increment for over 40,000 retirees have been approved with immediate effect.”

To further ease the financial burden on retirees, the state government has abolished the ₦4,000 fee previously required for retirement forms. Oyelade stated that this move will return nearly ₦20 million to the pockets of about 4,500 workers set to retire soon.

The payment demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workforce and retirees, ensuring they benefit from the administration’s efforts to enhance living standards across the state.
