Police Issue Warning Over Fraudulent Use of IGP Name

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force has expressed concern over unprofessional conduct by a minority of its officers, which continues to undermine the institution’s standards and reputation. Despite numerous warnings and disciplinary measures, certain officers persist in actions that erode public trust.

More concerning is the fraudulent use of the name and office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to engage in illegal activities. This tactic is often employed to intimidate victims into believing the IGP is complicit, deterring them from reporting such incidents.

Public Advisory

The public is strongly urged to report any misconduct by Police officers to the appropriate authorities, including:

  1. Superiors or heads of Complaint Response Units (CRU) in respective states.
  2. Commissioners of Police in their states.

Contact information for CRUs has been previously disseminated and remains available for reference.

Members of the public are also advised to exercise vigilance when approached by individuals claiming connections with the IGP or other senior officers to secure undue influence or favour. Any such incident should be reported immediately through the following official channels:

  • DCP Akin Fakorede, Head, IGP Monitoring Unit: 08184077076
  • ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer: 08037168147
  • CSP Taiwo Oyewale, Head, IGP Special Investigation Unit: 08069318238
  • SP Sherriff Lawal, ADC to the IGP: 08094712605

Commitment to Integrity

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. It calls on the public to cooperate by reporting any suspicious or unethical activities. Together, these efforts will help ensure fairness, justice, and accountability.
