South Africa’s late Nelson Mandela’s monument was on Tuesday unveiled in Moscow, Russia’s capital, as the country continues to win more affection from Africans.

Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary leader, philanthropist and politician who served as SA’s president (1994 – 1999).

He is widely regarded as one of the most iconic and influential leaders of the 20th century.

He is often referred to as “Madiba,” a term of affection and respect in South Africa.

To the West (United States, United Kingdom and Europe), Mandela was a terrorist who was placed on a “wanted terrorist list”, but to Africans, South Africans and the East, he was a freedom fighter.
