South-West Governors Converge in Lagos to Address Food Security and Economic Growth

Governors from the six states in Nigeria’s South-West region convened in Lagos for a high-level meeting focused on regional development, with food security and economic collaboration taking center stage.

The meeting, being held at Lagos House, Ikeja, was hosted by Lagos State Governor and Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. In attendance were Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).

Arriving from 10:55 a.m., Governor Makinde was the first to be received by Sanwo-Olu, alongside his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Barr. (Mrs.) Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, and Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde. The closed-door session officially commenced at 12:15 p.m. after all governors were present.

The forum’s discussions focused on pressing regional concerns, including agriculture, food security, economic partnerships, security, and the South-West Development Commission.

Today’s gathering follows a similar meeting on June 10, 2024, where Governor Sanwo-Olu was unanimously appointed as chairman of the forum.
