Witnesses say the articulated tipper, reportedly coming from the Bwari axis, lost control due to a suspected brake failure and veered off the road.

A fatal road accident involving a tipper truck has claimed an unspecified number of lives in Dutse, a community under Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The accident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Tipper Garage junction.

Witnesses say the articulated tipper, reportedly coming from the Bwari axis, lost control due to a suspected brake failure and veered off the road. It crashed into five vehicles, including several tricycles, and ran over bystanders in the area.

According to sources who spoke with SaharaReporters, the crash left several people dead at the scene, with lifeless bodies seen strewn across the road as shocked sympathizers gathered.

As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has not released an official statement confirming the number of casualties.

Residents note that the accident site has long been a danger zone due to the narrowness of the road and the difficult terrain, with multiple fatal accidents recorded there in the past.

Authorities are yet to comment on plans for road safety interventions in the area.
