UNICAL Promotes 18 Academic Staff To Professorial Cadre

The Senate of the University of Calabar, UNICAL has announced the promotion of 18 staff of the institution to the positions of Professors and Associate Professors respectively.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Florence Obi, who disclosed this at the 238th Senate of the institution held at the Senate Chamber of the University, said 13 Professors and 5 Associate Professors were beneficiaries of the exercise.

Those promoted to the rank of Professors include; Godwin Eneji Egbung (Biochemistry), Charles Cyprian Mfem (Physiology), Victor Adolf Fischer (Anatomy), Ima-Abasi Effiong Bassey (Pathology), Magdalene Ikpi (Pure and Applied Chemistry) and Aniediobong Ukpong (Geology).

The list of Professors also includes Pauline Ekuri (Human Kinetics & Health Education), James Okpiliya (English & Lit Stud), Idom Inyabri (Eng & Lit Stud), Anthony Eyang (Eng & Lit Stud), Eyo Offiong Mensah (Linguistics & Nigerian Languages), Sampson Nzuanke (Modern Languages & Translation Stud) and Akabom Ita Asuquo (Accounting).

Those elevated to the rank of Associate Professors are Joseph Obu (Physics), Chioma Dorathy Okpokam (Med Lab Sc.), Joseph Ntibi ( Science Education), Michael Takim Otu (Private & Property Law) and Francis Felix Edet (Religious & Cultural Study).

CONVERSEER reports that many lecturers have been promoted to professors and associate professors under Prof. Obi-led administration, with the most recent being in June 2023.
