The hotel about to be built on the unique, white rocks of Milos did not suddenly spring up. The investment plan had passed through all the relevant services, from the central administration to the local government. It is an illustrative example which shows that the approval filters have relaxed.
The rules on where you can build what have always been blurry. This “creative ambiguity” combined with market pressures has also leveled the last defenses the state had for the protection of the natural and cultural environment. We urgently need to find the right balance again.
