Williams keeps campaign promise as over 15,000 people benefit from free Medicare in Central C’River

Senator Eteng Jonah Williams representing Cross River State Central Senatorial District has fulfilled one of his campaign promises as over 15,000 people have been earmarked to benefit from his free medical outreach in the Senatorial District.

The flag off of the free medical outreach which took place on Saturday at the General Hospital UGEP and Primary Health Centre, Mkpani all in Yakurr Local Government Area included free surgery for Hernia, Appendicitis, Lipoma, Ganglion Cyst and free drugs distribution and general medical checks.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Representative of the Senator, Mr Hope Obeten said: “This medical outreach is in keeping with some of our campaign promises of prioritising the people’s welfare and wellbeing. We believe this is a necessary intervention for our people because we noticed most of them have these health challenges but don’t have the means to receive any medical attention.

“We believe this is a worthwhile venture that will make people’s lives better. This Intervention means a lot and makes a lot of difference in the lives of many of them. And we are doing it to complement the efforts of the Cross River State Government through the State Ministry of Health.

“I think we are doing the right thing and I believe that next year, by the Grace of God, we will do more if we see more people who need our Intervention.”

The first day of the free Medical Outreach witnessed over 2,000 beneficiaries in Ugep and Mkpani centres and will continue on Sunday, at Eja Memorial Hospital Itigidi, followed by General Hospital Obubra on Monday, Primary Health Centre, Bendeghe Ekim in Etung on Tuesday, Primary Health Centre Okundi in Boki on Wednesday, with a closing date on Thursday at Comprehensive Health Centre, Four Corners in Ikom Local Government Area.

Over 15,000 people are expected to benefit at the end of the outreach.
