A yet-to-be-identified middle-aged woman suspected to be mentally unstable has dr0.wned after she jumped into a deep river located on Akin Akeju Street, opposite Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) Ado Ekiti on Sunday, February 2.
Eyewitnesses say the woman was sent on an errand from a traditional healing home where she was receiving treatment for mental illness when she jumped into the river. They claim she had previously made an attempt to jump into the river but was stopped but that she however found her way into the river and succeeded in jumping into it.
“Despite various efforts to prevent the woman from taking her own life, she returned to the river after being stopped by passersby earlier in the day and ultimately jumped into it” a resident said
Her body has since been recovered from the river and deposited into the morgue.
The state police command is yet to comment on the incident.
