The 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, kick-started with women’s football from three groups on Thursday, 25th July 2024.
The two teams representing Africa, Nigeria and Zambia lost to Brazil and the USA respectively.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria put in their best against Brazil but lost to a lone goal scored by Gabriela Nunes Da Silva in the 37 minutes.
The win by Spain over Japan means Nigeria need to win their next game to stand a chance of making it to the knockout stage.
Host France also defeated 10-woman Colombia 3-2 while Germany and USA won commandingly against against Australia and Zambia, 3-0 each.
