ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – Questions continue to trail the death of soprano singer Ifunanya Nwangele, who reportedly died after a snakebite in Abuja, igniting concerns over emergency medical care and the availability of anti-venom.
With conflicting accounts from the family and hospital management, NTA correspondent Hakeemat Aliyu reports that her family and the hospital’s accounts of how she was attended to at the hospital do not align.
Ifunanya reportedly died after suffering a snake bite at her residence on the 31st of January.
According to her brother, through his social media page, she drove herself to two medical facilities on the day of the incident and was said to be conscious and communicating clearly until shortly before she collapsed at Federal Medical Centre, Abuja.
However, in a press release issued by the management of FMC Abuja, the hospital dismissed allegations of negligence, stating that the patient was promptly attended to upon arrival at the emergency unit.
The statement added that the medical team followed standard emergency protocols and made efforts to stabilise her, noting that all necessary steps were taken before her condition deteriorated.
While efforts were made to establish the availability of anti-venom at the hospital, the incident has reignited public debate on emergency response and the handling of snakebite cases in the country.
