Home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria will compete in Group D of the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), following the group-stage draw held on Wednesday, January 15, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
The draw placed Nigeria alongside defending champions Senegal, as well as Congo and Sudan.
The Super Eagles b led Coach Daniel Ogunmodede qualified for the tournament having knocked out perennial rival Ghana 3-1 across to legs to reach the championship they’re yet to win.
The victory held special significance for Nigeria, who had previously suffered CHAN qualification heartbreak at the hands of Ghana in 2008 and 2022.
Nigeria will aim to surpass their best-ever performance in the competition, having finished as runners-up in 2018.
The 2024 edition of CHAN will be historic as it marks the first time the tournament is co-hosted by three countries: Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya represented the government at the ceremony, with President William Ruto and CAF President Patrice Motsepe unable to attend.

Originally scheduled for February, the tournament has been moved to August to allow the host nations more time to enhance their infrastructure.

This year’s competition will see Group A, B, and C feature five teams each, while Group D will consist of four teams, including Nigeria.
Full 2024 CHAN Group-Stage Draw:
Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania were automatically seeded as the host nations in groups A1, B1, and C1, while Senegal, the current champions, were assigned to D1. Two additional teams will join the tournament from the qualifiers, marked as Q1 and Q2.
With a competitive field lined up, all eyes will be on the Super Eagles as they look to make their mark in the 2024 Africa Nations Championship.
