The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has confirmed Senator Ajagunla Olubiyi Fadeyi as its candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, describing his return to the party as a major boost to its electoral fortunes.
The party said Ajagunla’s return consolidates its position in the senatorial district and strengthens preparations for both the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Osun State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Sunday Bisi, speaking on behalf of the party’s national leadership led by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed and the Osun State Working Committee, said the senator’s decision to return to the PDP reflected renewed confidence in the party’s ideals and leadership.
Bisi noted that the PDP remained the preferred platform for politicians committed to democratic governance and the development of Osun State.
“It is with immense joy that I welcome our brother, Distinguished Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla, back to his political family. His return is not only a positive development to us but reassuring to thousands of our members and supporters who have remained steadfast in their belief that truth will always prevail over political expediency,” he said.
The PDP chairman congratulated Ajagunla on what he described as a courageous and carefully considered political decision, adding that the senator’s return had further strengthened confidence in the party’s commitment to justice, inclusiveness and service.
Bisi disclosed that Ajagunla would fly the PDP flag for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 National Assembly election, expressing confidence that the lawmaker’s political experience, grassroots support and popularity would enhance the party’s chances of retaining the seat.
According to him, the senator’s return comes at a critical period as the party intensifies consultations and mobilisation ahead of forthcoming elections in the state.
While noting that recent political developments had continued to favour the PDP, Bisi said more political actors were identifying with the party because of its inclusive approach and commitment to democratic values.
He assured the senator and other returning members that the PDP would continue to provide a level playing field for all members, irrespective of when they joined the party.
The party said Ajagunla’s emergence as the PDP’s candidate for Osun Central has further reinforced its preparations for the 2027 general elections, expressing optimism that the senator’s return would strengthen its grassroots mobilisation and electoral prospects across the senatorial district.
