Nigerian Precious Okoye emerges Miss Africa Calabar 2022

The contestant representing Nigeria, Miss Precious Onyinye Okoye has emerged winner of the Miss Africa Calabar 2022 after defeating 19 other Contestants across 19 African countries.

Okoye, Miss Nigeria, CONVERSEER reports was crowned the African Queen on December 27, 2022, at the Calabar International Conference Centre (CICC), Calabar after gathering the highest votes from the general African public (online) and the Judges (at the event).

The 27-year-old graduate of Botany from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, will represent this year’s theme “Agro-Industrialisation” and will rule Africa until December 27, 2023, when a new queen will emerge. She is the first Nigerian to win the prize since its inception in 2016.

As the winner of the 7th edition of Miss Africa Calabar, Miss Okoye carted away $35,000 from the $50,000 cash price and a brand new SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle).

Miss Okoye who could not hide her joy after emerging winner of Miss Africa Calabar 2022, dedicated the prize to God and the entire African continent for finding her worthy of the crown.

“I am so overwhelmed, I am trying to find the exact word to describe how I feel right now but most importantly, I am grateful to God Almighty for making this possible and for Africa as a region to find me worthy to wear this crown”, Okoye said.

Expressing her happiness also, Miss Poelano Mothisi (Miss Lesotho), First Runner-Up of Miss Africa Calabar 2022, said: “I am so excited to be your Miss Africa First Runner-Up. It was my first entry and I am really really proud of myself. Shout out to God because He is the one that got me here.

“I absolutely cannot wait to fulfil my duty as Miss Africa First Runner-up”.

As a First Runner-up, Miss Mothisi carted away $10,000 cash.

On her part, Miss Albertina N. Haimbala (Miss Namibia), Second Runner-Up of Miss Africa Calabar 2022, out of enormous joy said: “I am so excited and overwhelmed at the same time to be amongst the top 3. I am here embracing God and I am so excited for the journey so far. Thanks to Miss Africa Calabar organisation for giving me this opportunity”.

Miss Haimbala as the Second Runner-up carted away $5,000 cash.

CONVERSEER further learned that this is the 7th edition of the Miss Africa Calabar pageantry since it debuted in 2016.

20 beauty princesses from 20 African countries contested the Miss Africa Calabar 2022, the countries are; Botswana 🇧🇼, Cameroon 🇨🇲, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 🇨🇬, Ethiopia 🇪🇹, Ghana 🇬🇭, Kenya 🇰🇪, Liberia 🇱🇷, Mauritania 🇲🇷, Nigeria 🇳🇬, Namibia 🇳🇦, Lesotho 🇱🇸, Rwanda 🇷🇼, Somalia 🇸🇴, South Africa 🇿🇦, Swaziland 🇸🇿, Tanzania 🇹🇿, Tunisia 🇹🇳, Uganda 🇺🇬, Zambia 🇿🇲, and Zimbabwe 🇿🇼.

Since its inception in 2016, the Miss Africa Calabar which is a part and parcel of the prestigious Carnival Calabar and Festivals has had different themes, including; Climate Change in 2016, Climate Change and Migration in 2017, Africanism in 2018, Humanity in 2019, and COVID-19 Response in 2020.
