Hon. Eyo Bassey (Empowerment Chairman), Member Representing Bakassi State Constituency, has called on the Cross River State Government to come to the aid of the people of Ine Abasi, a fishing community in Bakassi which was engulfed in a fire incident.
Sometime last week, the attention of the Honourable Member was drawn to a fire outbreak in Ine Abasi. It was reported that the outbreak damaged a part of the community greatly, with houses and properties including fishing tools burnt to ashes. The cause of the fire was still unknown as members of the community were temporarily displaced.
At the plenary, the Honourable Member spoke extensively on the plight of the Bakassi people, especially that of Ine Abasi where residents have been displaced as a result of the fire outbreak. He called on the state government, through its agencies, to send relief materials to cushion the effect of the inferno in the community.
After serval speeches by other Honourable Members, Speaker of 10th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem passed a resolution to bring the state government’s attention to the needs of the Bakassi people.
