This landmark gesture which is fully sponsored by the Wife of the State Governor, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, ensures the enrollment of 500 senior citizens aged 70, covering their premiums for the next two years and it underscores her commitment to the welfare of the elderly.

The First Lady’s latest intervention adds to her expanding legacy of people-centered philanthropy, reinforcing her unwavering dedication to uplifting the most vulnerable and often overlooked members of society.

The generous intervention, which targets vulnerable seniors across all 18 Local Government Areas of the state, was confirmed by the Director General of the Cross River State Health Insurance Agency, Chief Godwin Iyala, during a telephone interview with the State Ministry of Information.

According to Chief Iyala, the First Lady has already made full financial commitment to cover the 500 beneficiaries, marking a significant milestone in her humanitarian outreach.

“This is a profoundly impactful initiative. By prioritizing our elderly population—many of whom have spent decades serving their families and communities—Her Excellency has once again demonstrated her deep sense of empathy and leadership,” Iyala stated.

He commended the First Lady for her consistent efforts in supporting vulnerable groups, describing her gesture as a lifeline for elderly citizens, particularly those in rural areas who face significant barriers to accessing healthcare.

“The ripple effect of this act is far-reaching. When the aged are cared for, families are relieved, and the moral fabric of our society is strengthened,” he added.

Chief Iyala further disclosed that the Agency will begin immediate enrollment of the beneficiaries into the health insurance database, ensuring prompt and uninterrupted access to medical services.

The initiative is expected to significantly ease the burden of healthcare costs for elderly citizens, offering them a renewed sense of dignity and security in their twilight years.
