Clashes between police and some 600 pro-Palestinian protesters in Berlin’s Steglitz district resulted in injuries to both demonstrators and police officers, police in the German capital reported on Sunday.

Seven protesters and 17 police officers were injured, and 28 criminal charges were laid, they said. The charges related to causing injury, attempting to release detained persons, resisting the police and incitement. Five charges relating to assault on police officers were also laid.

Restrictions were imposed on 26 participants in the protest which was held on Saturday afternoon. Organizers terminated the demonstration in late afternoon, but some 250 protesters remained in the area, shouting banned slogans and throwing bottles at police and journalists.

Police then cleared the area by force, with seven participants injured, four of them requiring hospital treatment.

Berlin has seen weekly demonstrations during the ongoing Gaza conflict.
