Femi Fani-Kayode Mourns Death of Longtime Aide, Ndifreke Saviour Mark, Calls for Full Investigation
Prominent Nigerian politician and former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK), has announced the tragic death of his longtime Special Assistant, Mr Ndifreke Saviour Mark, who served him for 34 years. Mark, aged 52, passed away on Sunday, 13th October, under circumstances that Fani-Kayode described as deeply concerning, prompting calls for a full investigation.
According to Fani-Kayode, Mark left his home early that morning around 5:40 a.m. to attend Mass at the Catholic Church of Assumption, Asokoro, where he was a devoted member. After the service, he reportedly checked into a hotel, Mildy Lodge and Apartments in Garki, Abuja, with an individual. It was there, in the company of this individual, that Mark apparently slumped and died.
He was rushed to Asokoro District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body has since been placed in the hospital morgue.
In a statement, Fani-Kayode expressed his deep sorrow over the loss, referring to Mark as “like a son” to him and his family. “Mark’s passing is a huge blow to me and my entire family. We shared many dreams and aspirations and fought many battles together shoulder to shoulder,” Fani-Kayode said. He added, “Now he has gone, it has left much pain, but I give thanks to God for his life and for the 52 years he spent on earth.”
Investigation Underway
Fani-Kayode revealed that the individual who was with Mark at the time of his death is currently in police custody, while the hotel receptionist has also been detained. Both the manager and the owner of the hotel have been questioned, and the hotel itself was sealed off by authorities for two days as part of the investigation. The room where Mark spent his final hours remains sealed.
“I have insisted on a full criminal investigation of the matter and an autopsy,” Fani-Kayode stated, emphasising his determination to ensure justice is served if any foul play is involved. He further reassured Mark’s family, including his wife Barrister Patience Ndifreke-Mark and their two children, that he would stand by them during this difficult time.
Fani-Kayode also expressed his confidence in the FCT Police Command to thoroughly investigate the matter. “I have absolute confidence that they will get to the bottom of this after which we can proceed to bury a man that was my most loyal staff and most trusted aide,” he said.
Remembering Ndifreke Saviour Mark
In his tribute, Fani-Kayode remembered Mark as a “kind, reliable, and compassionate soul” who brought joy to many and was “incapable of hurting a fly.” Mark’s long-standing service to Fani-Kayode and his family spanned over three decades, a relationship marked by loyalty and trust. Fani-Kayode noted that Mark had become a key part of his life, not just as a staff member but as a close confidant.
“I will never forget him, and though he has passed, he lives on in our hearts,” Fani-Kayode said.
The former minister also expressed his gratitude to those who had come to offer their condolences, asking for prayers for Mark’s family. “May Ndifreke’s precious soul rest in peace, and may the Lord comfort his wife and two beautiful young children,” he concluded.
As the investigation continues, many are waiting for clarity on the circumstances surrounding Mark’s untimely death, with Fani-Kayode’s call for justice resonating among his supporters and friends.
