Ravens Fan Turns Himself In After Viral Video Shows Assault on Commanders Fans; Faces 25 Years in Prison

Baltimore, MD – A Ravens fan who went viral for a violent attack on several Washington Commanders fans has turned himself into authorities. John Callis, a 24-year-old Baltimore resident, is facing a lengthy prison sentence after being charged with multiple felonies, including first-degree aggravated assault and three counts of second-degree assault. Callis could spend up to 25 years behind bars if convicted on all counts.

The incident, which was captured on video and widely circulated across social media platforms, shows Callis attacking multiple Commanders fans in a parking lot following a heated exchange. According to charging documents, the altercation involved three victims, two of whom were directly involved in the filmed incident, while a third was assaulted off-camera just minutes before the footage began rolling.

Authorities say the violent outburst was not a one-time occurrence. Earlier in the day, Callis had allegedly grabbed and punched one of the victims during a brief encounter. The tension between the group escalated later when two of the victims returned to the scene in search of a lost phone. That is when the viral video began, showing the intense altercation that left all three victims injured.

In the video, Callis is seen physically overpowering the Commander’s fans, throwing punches and aggressively tackling them to the ground. Spectators can be heard shouting, but no one steps in to de-escalate the situation until the confrontation ends abruptly. At least one of the victims sustained serious injuries that required medical attention.

“The level of violence displayed in this incident is disturbing, and we are taking these charges very seriously,” said a spokesperson from the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office. “What we saw on that footage was a clear act of aggression, with no apparent provocation justifying the brutality of the assault.”

Callis now faces first-degree aggravated assault charges, a crime that carries severe penalties in Maryland. In addition, he faces three counts of second-degree assault, stemming from his actions toward each of the three victims.

Following the incident, the video quickly went viral, amassing thousands of views within hours of being posted online. Callis was soon identified by both internet sleuths and witnesses who were present at the scene. On the advice of his legal counsel, Callis turned himself into local law enforcement just days after the video gained widespread attention.

Defense attorneys for Callis have not yet made an official statement but are expected to argue that their client acted in self-defense, claiming that the initial confrontation was provoked. However, prosecutors are confident that the evidence captured on video, combined with eyewitness accounts, will lead to a conviction.

The incident has reignited conversations about fan violence and sports-related aggression. Both the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders have condemned the attack, urging fans to remain civil during sporting events and to avoid violence at all costs.

Callis is currently being held without bail, and his trial is set to begin in the coming months. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison.
