The Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Calabar and presided over by Magistrate Mercy Ene, today, Wednesday, August 19, 2026, has further remanded Denis Odama for allegedly bullying the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, on social media.
Odama is a businessman who deals on cars and hails from Bekwarra Local Government Area of the state.
During the court sitting at Moore Road, Magistrate Ene denied the defendant (Odama) bail following a plea from his counsel.
The Magistrate said that the prosecutor’s counsel must file the matter before the bail hearing can proceed.
She adjourned the matter to tomorrow and further remanded Odama to the Afokang Correctional Centre, pending the court’s receipt of the suit from the prosecutor.
The matter is between the State vs Odama.
Recall that Odama was arrested by the Nigeria Police in Lagos, where he is currently pursuing a doctoral degree, and detained for days before being charged to court.
At the Magistrate Court, Moore Road, Calabar, on August 13, the court ordered the remand of Odama for seven days while adjourning the case to August 19, 2026.
However, to date, the prosecutor has yet to file any charges against Odama before the court, which is why the matter was adjourned to a later date.
