Berlin, Germany – A German member of parliament from the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD), Helge Lindh, has received a threatening letter from the far right.
“We will get you, you can count on that. You are not safe anywhere,” stated the letter, which Lindh posted on X on Friday afternoon.
The letter accused Lindh of “hatred of Germans” and was signed “NSU 3.0” – a reference to the National Socialist Underground, a far-right terrorist group which was uncovered in 2011.
The letter contained white powder, also visible in the photos Lindh posted on X, which was found to be harmless, the regional broadcaster WDR reported, citing a spokesman for the state security service.
Lindh is a member of parliament for the western city of Wuppertal, the SPD parliamentary group’s spokesman on culture and media policy and a member of the parliamentary committee on internal affairs. He is also active in migration policy.
In his X post, Lindh wrote that he had experienced many threats and acts of hostility since his election to the Bundestag, Germany’s lower house of parliament, in 2017, “but this marks a new low.”
He said he would not be intimidated and would continue to fight against hatred and extremism.
