Police Rescue 4 Kidnapped Victims, Arrest 17 for Murder in Separate Operations in Imo, Ebonyi

Owerri, Nigeria – In a series of decisive operations, the Nigeria Police Force has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety.

The Imo and Ebonyi State Commands successfully carried out separate missions resulting in the rescue of kidnapped victims and the arrest of suspects involved in a murder case.

Hostages Rescued in Imo State

Police operatives attached to the Imo State Command executed a daring rescue operation on Saturday, January 4, 2025, freeing four hostages abducted in Umuokanne, Ohaji Local Government Area. Acting on a distress call, the operatives swiftly located the kidnappers’ hideout and engaged them in a gunfight. Two kidnappers were neutralised during the operation.

The police recovered an AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and 21 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition. All four victims were rescued unharmed. The operation underscores the Force’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements and securing the lives of citizens.

Murder Suspects Arrested in Ebonyi State

In another development, on January 3, 2025, police operatives in Ebonyi State apprehended 17 suspects in connection with the murder of Uromchi Okorocha in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo Local Government Area.

According to reports, Mr Okorocha had been accused by local youths of allegedly causing several deaths through supposed witchcraft. Instead of reporting their suspicions to the authorities, the suspects took the law into their hands, killing and burning the victim before police operatives arrived.

Despite the unfortunate outcome, police efforts led to the arrest of all involved suspects. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, condemned the act of jungle justice and reiterated the importance of adhering to the rule of law. Citizens were urged to report suspected criminal activities to law enforcement agencies rather than resorting to extrajudicial actions.

Police Reaffirm Commitment to Public Safety

The Inspector-General has restated the Force’s dedication to bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice. He encouraged citizens to collaborate with security agencies by providing credible information to help create a safer society.

The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its mission to ensure public safety and uphold justice, urging all residents to maintain trust in the legal system while refraining from unlawful actions.
