Cross River Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy is dead

By Frank Ulom

The Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Dr Eka Williams Abang, has passed away from the face of the earth.

His death was announced by his brother, Nkang Williams, on Sunday morning, September 13, 2026, who disclosed that the Commissioner died suddenly.

In a tribute, Nkang said:

“Can this be a dream? Somebody, please wake me up with better news.

“I am struggling to believe that I am writing these words about you, my beloved brother, Dr. EKA Williams Abang. How can someone who was here with us suddenly become a memory? How can a familiar voice, a loving presence, and a precious life suddenly be silenced? My heart is broken, and my mind keeps searching for an explanation that can make this painful reality disappear.

“Brother, you were more than a brother to me. You were family, a companion on this journey of life, and someone whose presence carried meaning. There are memories that death cannot erase, conversations that time cannot destroy, and moments together that will remain permanently engraved upon our hearts. Your departure has left a space that words cannot adequately describe.

“Today, I mourn you with tears, but I also celebrate the life you lived. I celebrate the person you were, the lives you touched, the knowledge you shared, the relationships you built, and the legacy you leave behind. Your name will not simply be remembered because you died; you will be remembered because you lived—and your life mattered.

“Brother, if this were a dream, I would give anything to wake up and hear that it was all a mistake. I would gladly trade this painful reality for one more conversation, one more laugh, one more opportunity to say, ‘I love you, Brother.’

‘But even in the midst of this unbearable pain, I choose to hold on to God. The Bible says, ‘Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants.’ — Psalm 116:15.

“Rest peacefully, my beloved brother, Dr. EKA Williams Abang.

“Your journey on earth has ended, but your memory will continue to live in us. Your family will remember you. Your friends will remember you. Those whose lives you touched will remember you.

“Until we meet again, Brother…
Sleep well.
You will never be forgotten.”

His death came as a shock to many, especially those who have seen him recently.

Michael Ogar Gabriel Jr., Executive Media Assistant to Sen. John Owan-Enoh, Honourable Minister of State for Industry, FMITI, said: “This one hurts deeply. The news of the passing of Dr Eka Williams, Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, is truly heartbreaking.

“Ikom has lost a dedicated public servant and a good man. Your life of service, humility and the impact you made will remain in the hearts of those you touched.

“May God grant your family, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss, and may He grant your soul eternal rest.

“Rest well, Dr Eka Williams. You will be greatly missed and never forgotten.”

Pius Kejuo Osang, former Councillor representing Abo Ward in Boki Local Government Area of the state, said: “I don’t understand, I was with him on Tuesday, I slept in his hotel.”
