Otu's Wife Urges Citizens Not to Patronise TBAs, Donates Cash to New Year Babies

Ikom, Cross River – The Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Bishop (Mrs) Eyoanwan Otu, has donated cash and other gifts to parents and babies born on New Year’s Day in Ikom Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

During her visit to the Children’s Clinic and Holy Family Hospital, both in Ikom, Otu congratulated the families and expressed gratitude to God for the safe deliveries.

Represented by the Chairperson of Ikom LGA, Pst (Mrs) Mercy Nsor, she reassured pregnant women of the government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare facilities across the state.

She highlighted the significance of the yuletide season as one of love and sharing, which inspired the gesture. “Her Excellency, through the Chairman, has sent us here to present gift items to babies and mothers born on the very first day of the year to encourage other parents to utilise healthcare facilities in their communities instead of patronising Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs),” she noted.

Otu further pledged her commitment to improving welfare and ensuring the sustainability of quality healthcare delivery across all communities in Cross River.

One of the mothers, Juliet Gabriel, expressed her joy, saying, “I feel privileged to welcome a baby on New Year’s Day. Both my baby and I feel special, and this visit shows we are valued and loved.”

The newborns were named after the First Lady, Bishop Eyoanwan Otu, and the Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
