Democrat lawmakers led a major protest outside the U.S. Department of Treasury Building in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday after Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was granted access to the Bureau of the Fiscal Service.
According to Fox News, Tuesday’s protest came just days after the Treasury Department granted DOGE access to the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, which is responsible for distributing trillions of dollars in payments every year, including federal government salaries and Social Security payments. DOGE’s access to the Bureau of the Fiscal Service comes as President Donald Trump’s administration is pushing for a reduction in federal spending.
A video shared on X, formerly Twitter, shows Democrat activists gathered in a large protest outside the Treasury Department Building on Tuesday. In the video, protesters can be heard repeatedly chanting, “Let us in!”
In another video, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told the crowd of protesters, “We cannot allow Elon Musk and a small group of people to secretly, behind closed doors, take away our privacy, take away our dollars, take away everything we have. We are gonna fight this fight. I am gonna stand with you in this fight, and we will win.”
The Senate minority leader then led the crowd in chants of “We will win!” and “We won’t rest!”
A video shared by The Post Millennial shows Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.) threatening during Tuesday’s protest that Democrats will “fight back” against Republicans.

“Shut down the city!” McIver shouted. “We are at war! Any time a person can pay $250 million into a campaign and they be given access-full-access-to the Department of Treasury of the United States of America, we are at war!”
In another video, Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) claimed that Musk’s access to the Treasury Department’s payment system was an “unprecedented moment and constitutional crisis.”
“With unprecedented organizing, mobilizing, agitating, we will see you in the courts, in Congress, in the streets. Elon Musk is a Nazi nepo-baby,” Pressley told the crowd of protesters. “A Godless, lawless billionaire, and no one elected Elon. This is the American people. This is not your trashy cyber truck that you can just dismantle, pick apart, and sell the pieces of.”
Following a speech by Rep. Dave Min (D-Calif.) against Musk, protesters could be heard chanting, “Lock him up!”
