I Can't Refer to My Friend's Boyfriend as 'Uncle,' No Matter How Much Older He Is, Say Women

I Can’t Refer to My Friend’s Boyfriend as ‘Uncle,’ No Matter How Much Older He Is, Say Women

A number of women have said that once their friend is dating an older man, they automatically see the man as their mate, and they struggle to call him uncle.

The conversation started after an X user said it is “local” to call your friend’s boyfriend “Uncle” before his name just because the friend asked you to.

Another X user replied: “I can’t do it oh. Even if he’s older by far. He is now our mate abeg.”

Another woman wrote: “I’ll rather stop being friends with such person cos wtf?”

The initial poster added that calling your friend’s boyfriend “uncle” is “oju aiye (eye service)” because he obviously has exes younger than his current girlfriend and the friends expected to call him uncle.
