Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis visited Damascus Sunday, where he met with the country’s interim President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Asaad al-Shaibani.
“We talked about the new institutions in Syria, which must be based upon the rule of law. The institutions should be inclusive and tolerant, entirely compatible with International Law and, especially, the Law of the Sea, Gerapetritis said.
Greece is wary about an eventual Syria-Turkey memorandum delimiting maritime zone without taking into account Greece’s and, especially, Cyprus’ sovereign rights.
Gerapetritis adeded that “as a credible interlocutor of the Arab world, Greece will be present to ensure calm and prosperity in the region.”
