PDP’s Ashakia Wins Obanliku State Constituency Rerun Election

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Pius Ashakia has won the the Obanliku State Constituency rerun election.

He was declared the winner of the February 3, 2024 rerun election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Returning Officer, Dr Blessing Anyalebechi, on Saturday.

Ashakia polled a total of 275 votes in the two polling units the Court ordered a rerun to take his total tally to 10,587 votes.

Ashakia’s closest rival, Mr Sunday Achunekang of the All Progressives Congress, APC who had challenged his election in 2023, polled 243 votes to take his total tally to 10,427 which is 160 lesser.

Also, the remaining seven candidates polled a combined 64 votes only.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had earlier announced Hon. Ashakia Pius of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as the winner of the 18 March 2023 Obanliku State Constitiency election.

Hon. Peter Akpanke, Member Representing Obanliku/Bekwarra/Obudu Federal Constituency has congratulated Ashakia on his rerun victory.

Adding, “As I congratulate him, the unique PDP family and the Obanliku Nation on this resounding earthquake victory. Let me also reaffirm my pride in the Obanliku Nation as a community that never speaks from different sides of the same mouth. We have proved that our choice is our choice and it can not be distorted by any external machinations.”
