Dr Martins Achadu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has won the Yala II State Constituency rerun election.

Achadu was declared winner of the Saturday, 3 February 2024 rerun election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Returning Officer, Mrs Dorathy Inyang.

His party, PDP, won the majority of votes cast in 13 polling units in the Yala II State Constituency.

CONVERSEER reports that after collation of the rerun and main election, Achadu polled a total of 9,168 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nkasi Ekwok of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 8,647 votes.

The victory means, Achadu will retain his seat, which he earlier won, in the Cross River State House of Assembly.

Recall that INEC had in February 2023 declared Achadu winner of the February 25, 2023 Yala II State Constituency election.
