The opposition Party of African Peoples – Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI) has called for the dissolution of the country’s electoral commission, citing alleged irregularities in the provisional electoral list ahead of the upcoming elections.
Speaking during a forum on electoral disputes and irregularities, Katinan Koné, President of the party’s Strategic and Political Council, argued that reforming the commission is crucial to ensuring a credible and transparent electoral process.
He warned that failure to address these concerns could threaten social peace and democratic stability in Côte d’Ivoire.
The demand by the opposition adds further tension to an already highly charged political climate as the country prepares for its next elections.
In recent years, Côte d’Ivoire has faced repeated political crises linked to electoral disputes, and analysts say the latest controversy could further deepen divisions.
