The Cross River State Government has approved the temporary relocation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp from Obubra to the University of Education and Entrepreneurship (UEE) in Akamkpa Local Government Area to allow for comprehensive renovation and upgrading of the existing facilities.
The decision was announced in a press release dated Thursday, October 15, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh.
According to the statement, the relocation was approved by Governor Bassey Otu to create room for the renovation, remodelling and upgrading of the Obubra orientation camp.
The government said the existing camp, which has served the NYSC scheme for years, had become overstretched and required urgent intervention to meet modern standards.
It added that the renovation was necessary to provide a more conducive, safe and suitable environment for corps members participating in the national service programme.
The statement stressed that the relocation was strictly temporary, assuring the public that the orientation camp would return to Obubra after the completion of the renovation works.
The government said the University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa, had been assessed and found to possess adequate facilities to accommodate the orientation exercise.
The facilities listed include hostels, water supply, electricity, a parade ground and security infrastructure, which the government said would support a smooth orientation exercise.
The state government appealed to stakeholders to understand and support the initiative, describing it as part of its continued investment in infrastructure to promote youth development and national service.
The relocation announcement comes amid concerns about the condition of the NYSC orientation camp in Obubra, with the proposed renovation expected to address its infrastructure challenges and improve conditions for corps members.
