CALABAR – The management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has postponed all examinations initially scheduled between the 3rd and 5th of April 2025, indefinitely, following a protest by the students over the institution’s “No Fees, No Exams” policy.
The postponement comes after a closed-door meeting between university management and student union leaders, prompted by widespread student protests that disrupted campus activities earlier this week.
The decision was communicated to the student body through an official resolution jointly signed by the Student Union Government (SUG) Senate President Konung Benjamin and the University Acting-Chancellor Professor Francisca Bassey, on Friday.
According to the statement, the temporary suspension of examinations aims to allow the university’s administrative team to verify and update the records of students who have fulfilled their tuition obligations. Examinations are now set to recommence on Monday, 7th April 2025.
The university reiterated its stance on the “No Fees, No Exams” policy, affirming that only students who have paid their fees in full will be allowed to sit for exams, adding that students whose names are not found on the verified payment list are advised to present their school fee receipts for vetting by authorised personnel.
The management vowed to punish any student found presenting forged or cloned receipts.
It reads in part: “Due to administrative requirements, all examinations scheduled for today, the 3rd of April, to the 5th of April, have been cancelled. This temporary suspension will allow management to verify and update the records of students who have fulfilled their fee obligations. Exams will recommence on Monday 7th of April 2025.
“It is essential to note that the Management decision on the ‘No Fee, No Examination’ policy remains in effect. This means that only students who have paid their complete tuition fee will be eligible to participate in the exams.
“And for those students who have made payment and their names are not found in the list, they should do well to present their school fee receipt for verification to the examiners or any authorised person for vetting and approval. Anyone who is found with cloning/phoney receipt of payment of school fee will face the disciplinary committee.”
The university also announced that students unable to meet the payment deadline before the exams resume will be granted an opportunity to take a supplementary examination at no extra cost.
