Multiple reports including from Kicker sports magazine said that Hasenhüttl’s days appears to be over and that under-19 team coach Daniel Bauer could take charge for the final two games of the league season.

Wolfsburg have slumped to 12th in the standings in the long winless run with six defeats and two draws and no longer are in contention for a place in Europe.

Austria’s Hasenhüttl took the helm at the 2009 champions Wolfsburg in March 2024 and kept them in the top flight. This season’s aim was to play for a European berth.

Hasenhüttl has a contract until 2026 but it already appeared clear before the weekend that Wolfsburg would part ways with him after the season.
