SOKODÉ (CONVERSEER) – The Togolese government is set to receive €26.5 million in financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the construction of a 62-megawatt-peak solar photovoltaic power plant in Sokodé, central part of the country.
Estimated at €61 million, the project will also benefit from support by Proparco, a subsidiary of the French Development Agency, under a public-private partnership.
The AfDB package includes an €18.5 million direct loan and an €8 million concessional loan through the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), which the bank manages.

The power plant, developed by the EDF group, will include an 11-kilometer transmission line and is projected to generate 87 gigawatt hours of electricity annually.
It will supply clean, affordable, and reliable energy to local communities while reducing CO₂ emissions by 13,600 tons per year.
The project aligns with Togo’s national energy strategy to achieve 200 MWp of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and supports the Togo M300 national energy pact, which aims to expand electricity access, lower energy production costs through competitive bidding, and boost private sector involvement in the energy sector.
