Father uses daughter's university fees to bury her after ending her life for failing JAMB

PORT HARCOURT (CONVERSEER) – The father of the teenage girl who took her own life for failing the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has revealed how he buried her.

According to Timilehin’s father, he used the money he had set aside for her university education to bury her after she ended it all over her UTME result.

In an emotional interview with Channels Television, the father explained that Timilehin, who had scored 190 in the previous year’s UTME, was devastated when she saw this year’s result was 146.

“She said, ‘Daddy, this is not my result! Go and do something!’” he recalled.

“I told her to calm down, but she was panicking.” What followed was a tr+gic series of events.

The father said he kept video-calling after hearing she was unwell, but her siblings avoided his calls.

“When I finally saw her on the phone’s screen, I knew. She was on the hospital bed, struggling with d+ath. I knew then that she would not survive,” he added.

Mental health issues are serious issues that need urgent attention, especially in the Nigerian education sector where parents, teachers, policy makers and enforcers, leaders, etc, are sending young ones to their early graves.
