Soldiers eliminate 60 Boko Haram insurgents in counter-terrorism operation

MAIDUGRI (CONVERSEER) – The Nigerian military forces have reportedly eliminated scores of Boko Haram insurgents in Bita, Borno State in the aftermath of a major counter-terrorism operation.

The army described the mission as a “decisive and coordinated” joint effort involving both land troops and air support.

According to a statement released on Friday via the Army’s official X handle, the attack began at approximately 1:09 am when terrorists launched an assault on troops from the 26 Task Force Brigade.

The military responded with a powerful land and aerial offensive that, according to the Army, led to the neutralisation of at least 60 terrorists.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) also confirmed its involvement, stating that its Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai had delivered precise airstrikes on fleeing insurgents.

While not disclosing an exact number, NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame confirmed that a significant number of terrorists were killed in the operation.

In line with the NAF Chairman’s remarks, a statement noted that, on 30 May 2025, under the cover of night, NAF combat aircraft carried out well-coordinated strikes on terrorist hideouts in Bita, delivering one of the most significant setbacks to Boko Haram in recent history.

The operation, carried out in the early hours, is being hailed as a major advance in the Nigerian military’s ongoing campaign to degrade the operational capabilities of insurgents in the North East.

Ground troops have since launched follow-up clearance operations to secure the area and build on the success of the mission.

The NAF reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and ensuring that no safe haven exists for terrorists within Nigeria’s borders.
