ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – Journalist and rights activist, Agba Jalingo, and legal practitioner and rights activist, James Ibor Esq., have honoured the police invitation following the petition raised by ex-SA Media, Ursula Agbor.
It was rumoured that the duo were detained by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja, but a reliable source, Jonathan Ugbal, said they were not detained.
Ugbal, who was with them at the police station, said, “That cell must have been chaotic!” Adding, “Imagine say, for one whole day oga Jalingo no post anything, what a world! Chai! (sic)”
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Jalingo and Ibor lauded the police for handling the matter amicably.
“Make una no dey for too much hurry to get the gist. Make una caaalm dan. Una go hear the fuuull gist. Trust me. (sic),” Jalingo posted on Facebook.
In another post quoting Thomas Paine, Jalingo wrote: “He that will make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.”
On his part, Ibor said: “As you may be aware, Agba Jalingo and I were invited by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja regarding a Complaint filed by Miss Ursula Agbor.
“The personnel at the Centre were not only professional but also treated us fairly, respectfully and granted administrative bail on liberal terms which were fulfilled same day. Investigation of the complaint is ongoing and based on preliminary review of the facts, the police are urging parties to discuss amicable resolution. To this extent, there’s mutual restraints on all parties as the matter progresses.
“We remain confident that our institutions can function effectively if we continue to collectively and selflessly stand against wrongdoing.”
Converseer reports that Agbor petitioned Jalingo and Ibor to the police last week on a matter bordering cyberstalking and criminal defamation of character.
