TikToker Mirabel admits fabricating rape claim

By Frank Ulom

LAGOS (CONVERSEER) – Nigerian TikToker, Abigail Nsuka, popularly known as Mirabel (@mirab351) on TikTok, has admitted that she fabricated the rape story which caused a stir on social media.

Converseer reports that Mirabel, posted a tearful TikTok on February 18, claiming a stranger broke into her home in Mowe, Ogun State, raped her, and cut her with a blade – prompting donations, NGO aid, and police involvement.

She later admitted to creating fake threatening messages from a bogus account and inflicting her own injuries, fuelled by suicidal thoughts, codeine, and alcohol.

VeryDarkMan shared the confession, urging rehab over punishment, while others call for prosecution; Ogun State Police continue probing amid debates on mental health and false claims.

In the confession, she said, “The story about a stranger raping me isn’t true. On a normal day, I cut myself. I have panic attacks, and I engage in self-harm to cope.”

During the call, she further stated; “I did that because I felt overwhelmed and just wanted to end everything. I created the other account myself. Please sir help me. I don’t have siblings; just friends. I don’t even fully understand why I hurt myself. I am a lesbian.”

Meanwhile, Mirabel’s friends have gone LIVE on TikTok to distance themselves from the situation. One of her friends admitted she never confirmed that Mirabel was raped and only supported her as a friend. The friend also denied receiving money on Mirabel’s behalf, confirming that all donations went directly into Mirabel’s account.

Converseer earlier reported that the Ogun State Police Command transferred Mirabel from Ibafo to Ogijo, as the incident was said to have occurred in the latter Division.

“Following preliminary treatment, she was subsequently conveyed to the Ogijo Police Station, being the jurisdiction where the incident occurred, for proper documentation and continuation of investigative procedures,” DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, told Vanguard via an SME.

Babaseyi explained that the victim was promptly escorted to a medical facility for assessment and urgent medical attention.

The story has fuelled debates about punishment for rapists and false accusers.
