Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Cross River State, has declared the governorship seat held by APC’s Bassey Otu vacant.

The declaration was made by Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, a PDP governorship aspirant on Monday, citing alleged poor performance since May 29, 2023.

Archibong who was received by party members and supporters at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, described the large crowd as a “movement” to rescue the state from underdevelopment.

According to him, “The governor has empowered us, our people, and the party to declare his seat vacant, and we have so declared that as from today.”

He opened the party’s doors to defectors and members of other parties.

“Whether you are a member of the Labour Party, APC, or any other party, this is a movement to rescue Cross River State, and we must all put our hands together to do that,” Archibong stated.

The State PDP Chairman, Venatius Ikem Esq., on his part, described the party as a stronghold, despite recent challenges, boasting capable hands like Prof. Sandy Onor (Central), Archibong (South), and Prof. Zara Akpagu (North).

Ikem predicted Cross River would produce PDP’s 2027 presidential candidate, urging aspirants to pick forms.
