President Bola Tinubu has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for killing a bandit leader, Ibrahim Bastuji, during a military operation in Kogi State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the operation dealt a major blow to criminal networks responsible for attacks, kidnappings and other violent crimes across Kogi State and neighbouring areas.
He said Bastuji’s activities had caused hardship in several communities and that his death would reduce criminal pressure and strengthen public confidence in security operations.
“I congratulate our gallant troops on this decisive milestone. Nigeria will not surrender any part of its territory to criminals. Those who choose the path of violence against innocent citizens will find no hiding place,” Tinubu said.
He added that the success reflected the determination of security forces to intensify operations against armed groups across the country.
Tinubu also praised security operatives for rescuing Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar, widow of the late former Chief of Defence Information, General Rabe Abubakar (rtd), from her abductors.
He said the rescue operation showed effective intelligence coordination and professionalism by security agencies.
“The safe return of Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar is a source of relief to her family and to all Nigerians. I commend the intelligence coordination and bravery of the officers and men who executed the rescue operation,” he said.
Tinubu said the government remains committed to equipping the armed forces with resources and training needed to address banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He also urged residents to support security agencies with timely information to aid ongoing operations across the country.
