Police invite Ekiti monarch over alleged vandalisation of seven transformers

From Bamigbola Gbolagunte, Akure

The office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) zone 17, Akure, Ondo State has invited the traditional ruler of Ayetoro-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Oba Olufisan Ajayi Samuel over alleged theft of seven transformers in the town.

The invitation was not unconnected with a petition written by Mr Iyiola Afolabi, a legal practitioner against the monarch over alleged theft and conspiracy.

The letter of invitation dated 21st July, 2026 was signed by Abimbola Abdulraheem, a Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of administration on behalf of the AIG, zone 17, Akure.

The monarch was asked to appear before the Officer in charge of surveillance 1, zone 17, Akure.

The letter indicates that the office of the AIG is investigating a complaint in which the name need to obtain clarification from the monarch is imperative.

A copy of the petition sighted by Daily Sun shows that Oba Olufisan was alleged of complicity in the vandalization and receiving of seven stolen transformers from Ayetoro-Ekiti.

Messes Dayo Ogunsanmi, Shola Aderemi and Folorunsho Oni had complained about the stolen transformers, hence the petition.

A petition had earlier been submitted to the AIG zone 17 in 2022 regarding the seven transformers.

Mr Afolabi who signed the petition said the office of the AIG had in 2022 investigated the complaint and admonished the suspects to return the stolen transformers to the various locations.

However, he said the seven transformers are yet to be returned to their locations four years after.
