NPC Commissioner dies in Saudi Arabia while performing Hajj

The National Population Commission (NPC) representing Yobe State, Mai Aliyu Muhammed, has died while performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

CONVERSEER learned that Muhammed died on 21st April 2024 and has been buried according to Islamic rites.

According to a press statement signed by Mrs Nkoyo Nwakusor, Acting Director, Public Affairs Department, NPC, on Friday, 25th April 2024, Muhammed worked tirelessly to promote the noble objectives of the Commission and made invaluable contributions towards the preparation for the forthcoming first digital Population and Housing Census in Nigeria.

“The National Population Commission regrets to announce the death of the Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Yobe State in the Commission, Mai Aliyu Muhammed.

“The late Mai Aliyu Muhammed passed away on 21st April 2024 while performing the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia and has been buried according to the Islamic rites.

“The Commission received the sad news of his sudden demise as a rude shock and it is one great loss that has left a deep vacuum that will be difficult to fill.

“He was appointed and sworn in as the NPC Federal Commissioner, Yobe State by former President Muhammadu Buhari on 28th October 2020 for a 5-year tenure.

“The late Mai Aliyu Muhammed worked tirelessly to promote the noble objectives of the Commission and made invaluable contributions towards the preparation for the forthcoming first digital Population and Housing Census in Nigeria.

“He brought to bear on the smooth conduct of the Commission’s activities his wealth of experience, vast contact and goodwill. He was a very pleasant personality and related freely across all divides.

“He lived a worthy life of service and devotion to Yobe State and the nation. He will, therefore, be sorely missed for his contributions to population issues and national development as well as his fatherly role in the Commission.

“The Commission sends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the government and good people of Yobe State. It is our prayer that Allah will grant Mai Aliyu Muhammed Jannat ul Firdaus,” the statement read.
