Lukpata congratulates Ukelle’s first female Professor, Veronica Odey

Cross River State Commissioner For International Donor Coordination, Dr Hippolatus Lukpata on Thursday, congratulated Professor Veronica Ebi Odey on her recent confirmation as a full Professor at the University of Calabar (UNICAL).

The University’s Senate at the end of its meeting on Thursday, 2nd May 2024, approved the confirmation of Professor Veronica Odey alongside a few others as top academic chiefs in the University.

The Commissioner in a statement signed by his Media Director, Solomon Ugo, said Veronica Odey’s confirmation was thoroughly deserved, adding that she had over the years proven her competence through quality research, community service, sound teaching and learning as part of her academic calling.

He said it was based on her research output and integrity that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Florence Obi through the University’s Senate deemed it fit to approve her confirmation as a full Professor.

“Professor Veronica Ebi Odey does not need any introduction to the academic world. She has distinguished herself in the service of the prestigious University of Calabar over the years and her leadership skills are not in doubt.

“Being a part of the university itself, I am proud to say that this confirmation is thoroughly deserved and her proven track record in academia is there for all to see and steadily she has risen through the ranks to the pinnacle of her career which gives joy to Ukelle and Yala Local Government Area.

“Professor Veronica Ebi Odey is not just at the pinnacle of her career, she is the very first Ukelle woman and by extension a few women from Yala Local Government with such towering academic heights”, the Commissioner said.
