A senator representing one of the senatorial districts in Osun State has been accused of calling on supporters to attack members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The lawmaker, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the remarks in a video shared by Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who identified the individual as a sitting senator and provided an English translation of the comments.
According to the translation shared by Davido, the senator has said: “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too.”
The senator has also said: “This is a Federal Government election. On election day, even if they come with voter cards, we won’t allow them to vote.”
In the video, the senator is seen addressing supporters in Yoruba on the subject of the Accord Party and the forthcoming election.
In another portion of the remarks, the senator has said: “What kind of life is that? If we hear anything about Accord in Ilesa here, record me and go and tell them.
“When we tell them, the cap they are putting on is a bad one, yellow one.
“So, we have come to tell you now, from now till the election day, if we see them, kill them o.”
The alleged comments come days before voters in Osun State are expected to head to the polls to elect a governor, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Davido had earlier issued a statement in which he tagged US President Donald Trump drawing his attention to the development in the state.
The development also comes amid repeated appeals by political parties and some election stakeholders for security agencies to abandon what they called bias and rein in APC leaders and supporters whom they accused of attacking them.
Adeleke had also raised alarm over what he said was increased violence against government appointees, Accord leaders and his supporters saying they were arrested and taken to prisons across the country.
