The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has ordered a thorough investigation after a police constable, Daniel Aibana, resigned from the Nigeria Police Force citing depression and frustration occasioned by failed attempts at redeployment.
The command confirmed the development in an X post on Thursday.
In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, a copy of which is currently circulating on social media, Aibana, with Force No. 533200, attached to EOD-CBRN Base 19, Ibadan, tendered his resignation effective August 10, 2026.
Aibana stated that he had made “several attempts to seek demobilisation and redeployment to another department where I believed I could serve more effectively and regain my motivation.”
“Unfortunately, despite my repeated efforts and requests, I was not granted release from my current department,” he added.
The constable said he took the hard decision to resign “with effect from 10th August, 2026” after “a long period of personal struggle, emotional distress, and careful consideration.”
“My state of mind has been greatly affected, and I have been battling daily feelings of depression, frustration, and emotional exhaustion,” he stated.
“Despite my determination to remain committed to my duties, I have reached a point where I can no longer continue to endure the situation without serious consequences to my mental and emotional wellbeing,” the letter further reads.
The constable said he continued to discharge his responsibilities “to the best of my ability, hoping that circumstances would improve,” but noted that his “passion, morale, and overall wellbeing have continued to decline.”
Aibana explained that his decision “is not a reflection of a lack of appreciation for the Nigeria Police Force, but rather a necessary step toward protecting my mental health and restoring stability to my life.”
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to have served my country and for the experience, training, and professional development I have gained during my years of service,” he said.
Reacting in an X post, the Oyo State Police Command described the matter as an “internal affair”, adding that the CP has ordered investigation.
“This is purely an internal affair, and the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter,” the command stated.
