AkwaCross has again been thrown into mourning following the death of another journalist, Patrick Odey, the Punch Newspapers Correspondent in Akwa Ibom State.

Converseer learned that Odey, who hails from Cross River State died this morning in Akwa Ibom where he’s currently working as journalist and a member of the Akwa ibom Correspondents’ Chapel.

Confirming the news, the Akwa Ibom State Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman said, “I have confirmed that Patrick Odey is dead. His son said the father died this morning.”

Adding, “Right now, the family is trying to convey the corpse to a mortuary in Ogoja. The son said that they have a big financial challenge with paying for transport. We have to provide support. This is not only tragic but unbelievably shocking.”

Although the cause of his death is yet to be ascertained by Converseer, Tony Ita, the Correspondent of Southern Examiner in Cross River, advised journalists to always look out for their health.

“Journalists, please wake up. Check your health status and upgrade your spiritual life.

Before joining The Punch, Odey was the State Correspondent for Champion Newspapers in Nasarawa State and Daily Trust Newspapers. He was once Correspondent Chapel Chairman in Nasarawa.

Late Patrick Odey is from Mbube in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State. He is from the same community as the late Francis Ogar and late John Ogbedu.

His death came just under a month after the passing of Anietie Akpan, former The Guardian Nigeria Newspapers correspondent in Cross River State.
