Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa has led a team of national and local leaders in assessing the impact of rising water levels in Lakes Baringo and Bogoria on education in Baringo South Constituency.
The continued swelling of the two lakes is expected to negatively affect learning in several schools located near the water bodies, including Noosukuro, Leswaa, Lake Bogoria Girls and Loruk schools.
Speaking during the assessment tour, PS Ololtuaa commended the local community for donating alternative land to be used as a relocation site for schools that may be affected by the rising water levels.
The PS also sensitised residents on the need to prepare for the expected El Niño rains, noting that the weather conditions are likely to coincide with the start of the national examinations.
He urged education stakeholders and the community to put in place measures to minimise disruptions to learning and ensure that learners are able to sit their examinations safely.
Ololtuaa was accompanied by Baringo South Member of Parliament Charles Kamuren, education officials and other National Government officials.
